How to care for your hydrangeas

Hydrangeas are beautiful and versatile flowers that can add color and texture to any bouquet. Here is a guide on how to take care of fresh cut hydrangeas:

  1. Prepare the water: Fill a vase with fresh, cool water and add a floral preservative. This will help keep the flowers fresh and hydrated.

  2. Trim the stems: Cut the stems of the hydrangeas at an angle, removing any leaves that will be below the water line. This will prevent bacteria growth and help the stems take up water more easily.

  3. Condition the flowers: Soak the hydrangeas in the prepared water for a few hours before arranging them in a vase. This will allow the flowers to absorb water and revive their softness.

  4. Place the hydrangeas in a cool location: Hydrangeas prefer cooler temperatures, so avoid placing them near windows, heat sources, or direct sunlight.

  5. Change the water: Change the water every 2-3 days, or whenever it becomes cloudy, to keep the flowers fresh.

  6. Adjust the water level: As the hydrangeas start to drink water, make sure the water level stays above the bottom of the stems to keep the flowers hydrated.

By following these steps, you can enjoy your fresh cut hydrangeas for a longer period of time.

For maximum enjoyment:

  • Put the flowers in water as soon as possible.

  • Dissolve the flower food with warm water then give the bottom of the hydrangeas a fresh cut at 45 degrees and smash the bottom a little bit.

  • Change water regularly. Lemon juice is a good alternative for flower food.

  • Ideal home environment temperature for hydrangeas is 40-70 degrees.
